South India

The four states that fill the peninsular of South India – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala – share the distinctive and sophisticated Dravidian Hindu culture. While ancient coastal ports reflect lively global trading since the Greeks, the interior has some of India's most magnificent monuments set in dramatic scenery or among traditional villages. Louise’s tip: choose a small area to visit, as each is incredibly rich in ancient monuments and in living traditions.
