Bangalore in India is capital of Karnataka state. This formerly gentle British town is now known worldwide as a major IT centre, responsible for a third of India’s total software exports. In contrast, the state’s rural population produces 85% of the country’s raw silk, a mainly cottage industry that is state controlled. Louise’s tip: If you are in Bangalore for work or play, buy silk!
